Crosspoint Church in Pearland was founded in 1999 with 75 people meeting in a middle school. Today, the church has thousands of members meeting in its own permanent building and is planning a 25th anniversary celebration in June.

The church meets every Sunday at 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. and offers community groups for children, teens and adults as well as community outreach programs and a private preschool.

Lead Pastor Tom Allen said starting a new church was daunting in the beginning.

“I'd never planted a church, and I didn't know how but it was pretty clear that that's what I was supposed to do,” Allen said.

Crosspoint Church moved several times before opening its current building in 2013. The church started out meeting in a local middle school and opened its first building in 2002.

“God really really blessed our church,” Allen said. “We had to do two services and then [the church] grew to the point where we were doing three services and then we outgrew our facility.”

The church needed room to grow but didn’t have money to build a new building, so in 2010, the church moved out of their building and back into a temporary space at Turner High School. During this time, the space next to the original building went on the market but Crosspoint did not have the $2.2 million to purchase the land.

“That property got foreclosed on and we talked with the bank and they agreed to sell it to us for 400,000,” Allen said. “ ... We began building a new facility there, which is now our present facility.”

The current facility at 1134 Old Alvin Road opened in 2013, with a new kids building added in 2017.

“We built what is our kids facility and also the Next Generation Academy, which is a private preschool that operates during the week because we felt like that was something that our community needed and it's been great,” Allen said.

When Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area later in 2017, Crosspoint Church became a shelter for people impacted by the storm. The church also partnered with Samaritan's Purse to help rebuild homes in Pearland.

“Our folks really stepped up to the plate,” Allen said. “We were serving our community and mucking out houses and we became the first shelter because there wasn't a shelter open.”

Today, Crosspoint Church uses the Samaritan's Purse building for continued community outreach like their Hearts for the Homeless and Fostering Hope Ministries.

Church and community members are invited to join the church’s 25th anniversary celebration Saturday, June 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Independence Park. Individuals can enjoy live music, yard games, bounce houses and food from local food trucks at this free event.

The celebration will continue Sunday, June 2 with three special church services at 8:30, 10:00 or 11:30 a.m. The church will have photo opportunities and opportunities for members to reflect on the past 25 years.

No RSVP is required, and church and community members are encouraged to bring friends and family with them.
