The doctors at Howerton Eye Center recently moved their practice to a brand-new building in Kyle at 4282 FM 1626, Ste. 200, enabling them to see more patients and better serve the community.

Although the practice is in a new location, Dr. Kristen Hawthorne, Dr. Scott Kelly and Dr. Nadja Torres have been serving patients for over 40 years, making Howerton Eye Center a trusted name in the community.

“We've been around for a long time,” said Healthcare Project Manager Lauren Adetunji. “Just off of our reviews alone and how long our patients have been with us proves we’ve had longevity in this business.”

The new office is spacious and contemporary, occupying one suite inside a 20,000 square foot building.

“We also have an optical shop so after you see the eye doctor if you're in need of glasses we have someone there that can help you pick out a nice pair,” Adetunji said.

The doctors at Howerton Eye Center are ophthalmologists, meaning they are able to provide specialized eye surgeries like LASIK in addition to routine eye care. Because ophthalmologists are specialist of diseases and disorders of the eye, they are able to identify potential problems beneath the surface of the eye. This emphasis on the overall health of the eye sets the practice apart from other practices.

“With them being medical doctors and surgeons, they're able to handle many different complexities with the eye,” Adetunji said. “We're not just trying to give you a pair of contacts or a pair of glasses. We are looking at your whole health.”

Howerton Eye Center offers services such as:
  • comprehensive eye exams
  • diabetic eye disease management
  • dry eye treatments
  • glaucoma management
  • cataract surgery
  • LASIK surgery
"[LASIK surgery] is the newest service that we offer at our new building,” Adetunji said. “It wasn't that we didn't do LASIK before, but now we have our own LASIK machine so we're ramping up on how much more LASIK surgery we do.”

The doctors at Howerton Eye Center provide compassionate care to their patients and make a visit to the eye doctor a less intimidating experience.

“When patients come and visit us, we want them to know that they are heard,” Adetunji said. “[For] all of their problems or any of their needs, were always there around the clock to serve them.”

Adetunji said patients at Howerton Eye Center are treated like family and the staff is very supportive.

“Everyone here is super friendly and super personable,” Adetunji said. “We care about all of our patients. Everyone is treated the same.”

The health of a patients’ eyes can be an indicator of their overall health, so the doctors at Howerton Eye Center recommend individuals have their eyes checked at least once a year.

“We're actually looking at the whole health of the eye,” Adetunji said. “There's so many other things that can be diagnosed by having your eyes checked.”

Because Howerton Eye Center is only occupying 5,000 square feet of the 20,000 square foot building, Adetunji said the practice is currently looking for businesses to join them.

“We are currently looking for a restaurant or a cafe that would like to join us in the building,” Adetunji said. “We also have office space available.”
