Dr. Holbrook said he always knew he wanted to be a dentist like his grandfather. As a child, going to the dentist was a positive and comfortable experience for him, and his goal is to provide that same experience to his patients.
“I looked forward to going to the dentist,” Dr. Holbrook said. “It was my time with Grandpa. He was quite a character, always being silly and making it fun.”
His practice is located at 457 W Main St, Lewisville and stands out as one of the only dental practices in the area to offer IV sedation.
"Because we offer IV sedation, we see many patients who would otherwise put off dental work due to their anxiety,” Dr. Holbrook said. “It is a great way to help people feel comfortable getting their dental health needs met.”
In addition, Prairie Creek Dental offers:
- dental cleanings
- crowns
- implants
- fillings
- dentures
- cosmetic dentistry
- teeth whitening
- gum treatments
- and root canals
“We have found from over 400 five-star reviews that people value quality care and a comfortable environment,” Dr. Holbrook said.
Before Dr. Holbrook moved to Texas, he spent 21 years practicing dentistry in Idaho. While there, his passion for humanitarian work began after trips to El Salvador and Guatemala.
“It's nice to be able to give back, especially to people in areas that are underserved,” Dr. Holbrook said.
Most recently, Dr. Holbrook and five other local dentists spent a week in the Dominican Republic in 2019 providing free dental care to individuals without access to a dentist.
He said he saw many people who had never been to a dentist before and had numerous cavities as a result. He was able to fill cavities and alleviate tooth pain.
“Doing dentistry where there's no money involved and it’s just freely giving is awesome,” Dr. Holbrook said. “The most rewarding thing is seeing the gratitude in their eyes.”
Dr. Holbrook and his team also helped build homes and distribute sports equipment donated by patients and community members.
“We took our families so that our kids could help out with handing out food, building homes and tearing down homes,” Dr. Holbrook said. “We were able to give the gear [collected at our offices] to a local group of kids that were on a team but didn't have the supplies they needed.”
Dr. Holbrook wasn’t able to travel during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but is planning another trip to the Dominican Republic in June.
“We are working with a nonprofit to help organize the trip and determine the best location [in the Dominican Republic],” Dr. Holbrook said. “Right now we're gathering doctors and people to help out.”
With patients in Lewisville and around the world, Dr. Holbrook’s goal is to restore his patients’ smiles and their confidence.
“Your connection with the world is important, and a lot of that has to do with talking, a lot of times over food—if that's uncomfortable, you'll lose those opportunities to connect,” Dr. Holbrook said. “We're here to remove any of those barriers that keep you from connecting with others.”
