Pat and Cynthia Hyland said the goal of Scenthound is to enrich the connection between people and their dogs. With their previous experience owning a business franchise and their love for dogs, the couple bought the Round Rock location to offer a unique wellness care experience for dogs and their families.

They do this by providing affordable hygiene and wellness services and educating pet parents on how to best care for their pets.

“You're helping your dog be healthy so they can live a longer life,” Cynthia said.

As dog parents themselves, the Hylands noticed the high cost of routine pet care. Pat said pup parents may put off routine care services like bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and more for their pet in an effort to save money but putting it off can be a health risk.

“We create an opportunity for the dog and the parent to be happier and healthier,” Pat said. “If the dog's not healthy and happy then the pup parent isn't [happy].”

What Scenthound offers

While Scenthound does offer grooming for dogs, Pat said not all dog breeds require traditional grooming in the form of stylized haircuts. However, all dogs need good hygiene care. Even dogs with short coats need their teeth brushed, nails clipped, ears cleaned, and baths.

Scenthound offers three unique membership options to allow pet parents to choose the services that best fit their dog’s needs.

• The Unlimited membership costs $65 and includes all of the services in the Escentials Plus membership, but the dog can come in as many times as the member wants each month.

“The soaps we use in the shampoos are very safe, so they don't take any of the oils out of the skin,” Pat said.

Scenthound knows that not all dog breeds have the same wellness care needs, so the business offers additional services such as de-shedding, deep conditioning, and treatments for problem skin.

“The deep conditioning treatment is really good for your doodles or anything with a curly coat,” Cynthia said. “ It softens the coat and helps with matting.”

What makes it unique

The employees at Scenthound work with the dogs and their families to make both feel comfortable about the routine hygiene experience.

Cynthia said they will give the dogs breaks if they are nervous and make note of what worked and what didn’t work to continue improving the dog’s experience.

Pet parent education is essential to Scenthound. Each time a dog comes in for their basic hygiene package the staff gives a six-point SCENT check. They check the dog’s skin, coat, ears, nails, teeth and glands rating each on a scale of one to five.

This helps the pet parent understand how best to care for their pup, Pat said. Members can also easily schedule appointments and pay right through the Scenthound app.

Cynthia said Scenthound works with all breed types and gives every dog a chance.

Another quality that sets the business apart is Scenthound does not keep the dogs all day for their services. The pet parent can pick their dog up as soon as their hygiene care is done. Pat said most dogs are only at Scenthoud for 30 minutes to an hour, making it convenient for you to drop off your dogs and run errands before you come back to pick them up.
