The secret to success: How McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing stays at the top of their game after 40 years of service

Sponsored by: McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing

With over four decades of business experience, McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing knows a thing or two about providing excellent customer service.

The company was originally founded by Irvin “Mac” McWilliams in 1974 after he spent 25 years in the United States Navy. During his time of service, he learned heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration skills, which later became the basis for his business. McWilliams retired with his son, Irvin McWilliams Jr. at the helm. Now he's also retired and Mac's grandson, Trey McWilliams is at the helm and continues to provide the same level of expertise.

“McWilliams was taught these skills while working on naval ships, such as the USS Kitty Hawk,” marketing strategist Stacy Dicks said. “From learning the HVAC and refrigeration skills, you can understand that air circulation and air quality are extremely important in the confines of a ship.”

A growing business

Until recently, the business only serviced the Livingston, Huntsville, Lufkin and Nacogdoches areas. This year, McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing partnered with Air Express and Houston Water Heaters in the West Houston area to reach customers there.

“We're really excited to be anchored in the West Houston area, and to be able to provide heating, cooling, plumbing and home generator services for folks in these communities,” Dicks said.

These locations include:
  • 7642 S. U.S. Highway 59, Burke
  • 2915 N.W. Stallings Drive, Nacogdoches
  • 109 E. Abbey St., Livingston
  • 1233 11th St., Huntsville
  • 7225 N. Park Drive, Richmond
Much like the other locations, the technicians in the West Houston office all live and work in the area, which ensures the business is fully plugged into the community. The company has also recently hired a brand liaison whose sole job is to make connections, get involved and give back to the community.

What they offer

Since adding plumbing to their extensive list of services in 2021, McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing has seen success in servicing their customers in a convenient, efficient way. The company prides itself on their 7-7-7 motto; their technicians work from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week.

“We have no overtime charges during those hours, regardless of holidays,” Dicks said. “We pride ourselves in being available to take care of our customers when they are in need.”

When a customer calls and gives their information, McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing dispatches a technician to the home or business and provides an assessment of the problem. This is covered under an $89 dispatch and diagnostic fee. Once the assessment is complete, the technicians provide a guide on how to fix the problem.

If the customer chooses to do so, often the technician will attempt to fix the issue immediately using their fully stocked van. If it is a larger problem, the technicians will make a plan to fix the problem in a timely manner.

Training the next generation

In 2022, McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing launched the first ever Home Services Academy, which is a paid training course that specializes in training HVAC technicians, installers and plumbers. This offers a chance for students to complete their training and graduate on to working for the business as a trusted technician.

“Ultimately in order to be accepted into the Home Services Academy, applicants would go through an application process and an interview process,” Dicks said. “If they are invited to attend the Home Services Academy, then we provide paid training for them to complete that program to get their foot into the HVAC and plumbing industries.”
