From business insurance to employee benefits packages to personal policies like home, auto and life, The Nitsche Group provides their clients access to insurance policies that align with their individual needs— just as they have since 1949.

The company took root with then entrepreneur and banker, Emmet Hannes, in 1949. In 1971, Hannes brought R.J. Nitsche onboard, and the rest is history. In 2011 after working with the agency for 24 years and serving in nearly every department and role possible, Robert Nitsche, R.J. Nitsche’s son became CEO. He has continued to grow the company’s legacy ever since.

Over the last 15 years, the agency has steadily grown its presence throughout Texas, while maintaining the deep client and industry relationships it has built over decades. CEO Robert Nitsche said the family-owned and -operated business “just does things differently.”

Nitsche said the agency isn’t another corporate cookie-cutter company—instead, the agency operates by a set of values inspired by his grandfather.

“My grandfather always used to say, ‘It takes years to build a reputation and only a few bad decisions to tear it down.’ For us, it’s important to have integrity, authenticity and expertise. That’s how we build trust with our clients,” he said.

From its start in Giddings, Texas, 74 years ago, the agency has built long-standing relationships with small businesses and individuals over time— some of which have spanned generations.

“It’s been incredible to watch our clients grow over the years and see their successes,” Nitsche said. “And along the way, our agency has grown right alongside them.”

Nitsche credits this to the two-way trust cultivated between the client and the insurance agency; a principle he says also applies to the insurance carriers the agency works with.

“As an agency in a small town, we have built a lot of great relationships with the insurance carriers we work with— that’s something some of our big city counterparts just don’t have,” Nitsche said. “When our clients have a problem, we can go directly to the insurance carrier and try to get help and work with them on the issue— whether that’s better pricing or more consideration.”

A majority of what The Nitsche Group does is built around small business owners, and niche industry sectors including construction, oil & gas, and electric cooperatives. Beyond that, the agency also provides an array of other coverages, from personal insurance like home and auto to employee benefits programs for employers.

Nitsche said the agency is able to base the insurance solutions offered to each client by getting to know them, their business, and the work that they do.

“We’re able to provide access to the policies business owners need,” he said. “We don’t just provide a quick fix policy like some online companies do. We get to know our clients. We talk with them and work to understand their needs— whether that’s coverage for their company, their employees, or even their own family.”

As a small-town agency, Nitsche said the company works with all kinds of businesses from car dealers to attorneys to beekeepers. In every instance, what sets the agency apart is the dedication to providing integrity, authenticity and expertise— whether that’s to their clients or their community.

“We’re from a small town and that’s who we are. We’re here to make a difference on a community level,” he said. “We’re involved in local charity work, we’re investing in our clients, and we’re building partnerships along the way.”
