Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your experience in the world of kitchen design?

Nelson: My journey into the enchanting world of kitchen design began with absolutely zero experience in the industry. Now, here's the twist – I'm your quintessential middle-aged multitasker, juggling two kids and a newfound passion for design. It may have seemed like a daunting task, but I dove headfirst into the world of kitchen aesthetics. Fast forward to today, and I can proudly say I've transformed from a total newbie to a certified kitchen design expert.

With so many designs under your belt, can you give a rough estimate of how many projects you've undertaken so far?

Nelson: Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working on a whopping 12,000+ kitchen design projects. To give you a glimpse into my journey, in the early days, it was like I was crafting a masterpiece with every design, but it also took me an entire day to do just one.

At Nelson Cabinetry, we've got a nifty policy of a 24-hour turnaround for designs and that's been a game-changer. It's like having a time-sensitive motivation urging me to design faster while maintaining that quality spark. So, when you ask about the number of projects, let's just say I've seen my fair share of kitchen dreams come true which is the greatest satisfaction as a designer.

In the realm of kitchen remodeling, what are some common myths or misconceptions people have, and how do you address them?

Nelson: Here are 10 myths.

1. Myth: There's a vast difference between ready-to-assemble and custom kitchens.

Reality: RTA kitchens can be just as good, if not better, thanks to high-quality materials like plywood, which can outshine the particle board used in some custom kitchens.

2. Myth: RTA cabinets can't fit every kitchen space.

Reality: Nearly all cabinets are modular in size, and even custom kitchens often use fillers to make everything fit seamlessly.

3. Myth: Online kitchen remodeling lacks a personal touch.

Reality: With the right team, it's all about bridging that virtual gap with excellent communication and a keen understanding of your client's vision.

4. Myth: Online remodeling is plagued by delays.

5. Myth: Online remodeling lacks customization.

Reality: We pride ourselves on tailoring every detail to your liking, ensuring your kitchen is a reflection of your personality.

6. Myth: DIY kitchen remodeling is always cheaper.

Reality: DIY projects can end up costing more in the long run due to potential mistakes and lack of professional expertise.

7. Myth: Renovating a small kitchen isn't worth it.

Reality: Small kitchens have immense potential for creative design, maximizing functionality and adding value to your home.

8. Myth: High-end appliances are essential for a great kitchen.

Reality: Quality appliances are important, but the overall design and functionality of your kitchen play a more significant role.

9. Myth: You need a massive budget for a beautiful kitchen.

Reality: With thoughtful planning and resourceful choices, stunning kitchens can be achieved on various budgets.

10. Myth: Open-concept kitchens are always better.

Reality: Open concepts are trendy, but they might not suit every lifestyle. Closed or semi-open layouts can be just as functional and cozy.

With the rise of technology, how has virtual consultation changed or enhanced the way you approach designs?

Nelson: With the rise of technology, virtual consultation has completely revolutionized the way we approach designs. It's like having a design superpower right at our fingertips.

In the past, the process often involved spending valuable time driving to stores, waiting for a sales representative in the store and scheduling a week or two weeks out in-home consultation, adding time to your project. Instead, we can seamlessly connect with clients from the comfort of their homes or project sites, all through the use of pictures and videos.

This transformation has not only saved time but also enhanced our design process. Plus, clients can receive a design within 24 hours or less. Additionally, virtual consultations foster open and effective communication, ensuring that every detail is considered and every concern is addressed promptly. It's like having a direct line to our clients' dreams and aspirations.

Are there any design trends or innovations that you're particularly excited about right now?

Nelson: I'm absolutely intrigued by the world of smart kitchens and how we can seamlessly incorporate them into our designs. It's like adding a touch of the future to every kitchen project. Smart kitchen technology is booming, and it's not just about convenience; it's about enhancing the overall kitchen experience. From connected appliances to intuitive lighting and smart storage solutions, there's a world of possibilities waiting to be explored.

What do you like the most about working at Nelson Cabinetry?

Nelson: What I truly cherish about working at Nelson Cabinetry is the sense of being part of a close-knit family. It's like having a warm and welcoming kitchen where everyone's a valued member. Here, we operate with trust and autonomy, which is something I greatly appreciate. Instead of micromanagement, we're entrusted with the freedom to do our best work. It's empowering to know that our skills and expertise are respected and valued.

This supportive and trust-based environment not only fosters creativity but also allows us to deliver top-notch results for our clients. It's the perfect recipe for a fulfilling and enjoyable career in kitchen design.

What was it like collaborating with Brooke from Making Modern? Can you tell us about any specific challenges or highlights?

Nelson: Working with the dynamic duo of Brooke and Brice from Making Modern was an absolute delight. It comes with a unique blend of excitement and responsibility when you're entrusted with creating someone’s dream kitchen.

There's a tremendous sense of responsibility to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch. And yes, even in the glamorous world of design, the occasional hiccup can sneak up on you like a rare blue moon. In this case, it was the measurements that decided to play tricks on us, but we rolled up our sleeves and teamed up to conquer the challenge. The end results? A kitchen that was nothing short of spectacular.

Working with clients is already rewarding, but when those clients are celebrities who put your work on display for the world to see, it's a feeling beyond words. It's like the world saying, 'Hey, we recognize your talent.' But it's not just about the glitz and glamour. Being part of something bigger, something that inspires and captivates, something that everyday families will use and enjoy, is where the real treat is.

We've heard you're working with another celebrity team. Without giving away any secrets, what can you share about this upcoming project?

Nelson: The Johnson family project with David and Jennifer is one of my favorites. Among the array of beautiful projects I've been lucky to work on, this one stands out.

It all started with a simple text from the Johnson family, along with a snapshot of their existing kitchen. And you know what they say, when inspiration strikes, there's no time to waste. Within just an hour, I'd whipped up a kitchen design for them, complete with a detailed itemized list of everything they needed. They were left absolutely stunned by how swiftly we turned their dreams into a reality, and they ordered the same day.

To top it off, their cabinets were delivered to their doorstep three days after the order was placed —which was another aspect they were surprised by.
