Immersing the community in accessible art forms has always been a goal of the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra. The volunteer-based business is set to celebrate its’ 32nd season this year with a diverse run of symphonic music.

“We really hone in on bringing a great diversity of symphonic music to Fort Bend,” Music Director and Conductor Dominique Royem said. “Not just your normal Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, but everything from musical theater to film scores to the normal classic repertoire.”

With the orchestra and choral group composed of people from all walks of life, the Fort Bend community gets to listen to music performed by their peers. Auditions run throughout the year and are open to adults only, with special permission sometimes given to high schoolers who want to join.

Before the lights start to dim and the musicians warm up their instruments, patrons can find all the details they need to know down below to be prepared for the performance.

Kicking off the season

The first show of the season will be “Straight from the Soundtrack: Westerns,” and will feature well known movie themes from classic Western films, including “Gunsmoke,” “Silverado,” “The Lone Ranger,” “The Wild, Wild, West,” “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” and more.

The concert will commence at the Stafford Center, located at 10505 Cash Road, Stafford, on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m., with tickets ranging from $15-$25. A themed raffle is set to entertain attendees during intermission, with prizes such as themed Western baskets and life-sized cardboard cutouts of legendary Western figures like John Wayne.

“Western music for movies and TV shows is Americana at its best. It has that whole idea of the wild wild west in it and its music tends to be big and open and cinematic, but also has some tender-hearted elements to it as well,” Royem said. “You have your romance themes and you have your big, bold, exciting adventure themes, so it's a great mix of music.”
