When someone remarks to Ami Feller, the owner of Roofer Chicks, that she’s created a stereotype-busting business with an all-female crew, her response is simple and to the point.

“That’s the goal, to show women that they can do it and hopefully to make their lives better, because there’s money to be made,” Feller said.

What began as a college job with her brother has evolved into her own enduring and acclaimed company, winning the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung award for Best Roofing Contractor the past seven years.

“We’re working on eight [years], right now,” Feller said.

Quality and expertise

Roofer Chicks is a GAF Master Elite Certified Contractor, which means the crew has completed a higher screening process and training to the highest 2% standards in the country for product installation. They also work with Malarkey shingles, which are rubberized asphalt that reduce landfill waste and contain smog-reducing granules. The company is registered with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas for both residential and commercial properties, and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

On top of this, Roofer Chicks is well versed in working with insurance companies to make it easier on the homeowner when a claim is involved. All of this adds up to expert craftsmanship, thoroughness of the job as well as cleanliness on the site. In addition to shingle roofs, Roofer Chicks installs metal and tile.

“If it’s a roof, we do it,” Feller said.

There are many options in replacing a roof, and Roofer Chicks is skilled in guiding homeowners through the process to determine which best meet their needs and budget. Once the job begins, homeowners can rest assured that all facets of the job will be done professionally. Experienced in all types of roof installation, Roofer Chicks is fully licensed, insured and certified. Plus they are “on call” if an emergency arises and they encourage homeowners to contact them before a little problem becomes a big one.

Chicks company culture

The top quality work and customer satisfaction of Roofer Chicks only tells part of the story. With a workforce that’s approximately 75% female, Feller is focused on helping women, especially single mothers and women who are looking for a fresh start to achieve their goals.

“I was a single mom, and I think as women we tend to feel like we’re stuck in situations we don’t have to be stuck in. Women feel that way because they don’t have the experience or education or confidence. This industry is easy to enter, and it’s lucrative,” Feller said.

Feller describes the Roofer Chicks culture as fun, collaborative and transparent. The crew has taken cruises together and try to float down the Guadalupe River at least once a year. Together they volunteer on projects with groups such as Habitat for Humanity, food distribution with the Rotary Club and donate blood. She firmly believes in everyone being involved in the decision making process at the company and rarely has to play what she calls “the boss card.”

Above all, Feller wants to help all her employees excel. In the future, one of her dreams is to have a day care facility at their offices for the mothers who have young children.

Advice for choosing a roofing company

For anyone looking to hire a roofing company, Feller recommends going with a local, established company and checking Google reviews to make sure they stand behind the work they do.
