Arranging It All, an Austin-based company celebrating 25 years of in-home organizing and turnkey move services this year, is excited to be opening its second location in the South Florida/Fort Lauderdale area on Jan. 1. In this Q&A, owner Zack Baker discusses how Arranging It All began and what the future holds for the thriving business.

What made you choose South Florida?

Baker: “I was recently a speaker at the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers conference in Philadelphia. Having just been inducted onto its national board, I felt honored to be in the presence of so many like-minded professionals. Something that I noticed was that the subject of Florida kept coming up again and again. It quickly became clear to me that there is a tremendous need for a company like Arranging It All in the state—a need that is only going to continue to grow in the coming years.”

Are you familiar with South Florida?

Baker: “I am very familiar with the area and it is very close to my heart. I spent most of my life visiting both sets of my grandparents out there. At the start of my professional career, I worked in real estate in Miami.”

How did you get into senior and specialty move management?

Baker: “When the real estate market collapsed in the 2000s, I moved to California and started working as the Community Relations Director for Belmont Village Senior Living. I helped them open senior living communities across the country for 10 years, including the Belmont Village in West Lake Hills. Serendipitously, I was approached by the previous owner of Arranging It All, who I had been working closely with. He helped me to see the value in helping not just seniors in one community, but seniors all over the state.

In that moment, I saw the wisdom in his words. Fast-forward five years, I am proud to say that I have more than doubled Austin's oldest and largest organizing and turnkey move management business. We have upwards of 30 employees, including professional organizers, interior designers and handymen on call to help make people's moves as smooth and easy a process as possible.”

With a robust team, are you able to do big jobs?

Baker: “Absolutely. In addition to smaller moves in senior living facilities, we also do massive jobs all the time, particularly with the influx of all the new tech companies pouring into Austin. Just recently we moved an Austin family from a 8,000-square-foot house to a new 12,000-square-foot mansion in two days. They came home from a weekend trip to a finished home, with art on the walls, televisions hung, beds made and toothbrushes by the sink. The kitchen, closets, pantry and kids rooms were completely unpacked and perfectly organized. They just had to walk in and enjoy.

We're also excited to be moving the very first resident into the Reserve at Lake Travis later this month. Additionally, we just won a contract with Westminster Manor. In addition to helping move in residents to their brand-new Carlisle building, we will have three days to move 22 assisted living, one-bedroom apartments as well as 16 memory care units. It will be a big job, but at Arranging It All, ‘No job is too tall or too small, we do it all.”

That's exciting, but Florida is a different market. Are you anxious about making the big step?

Baker: “I couldn't be more thrilled. In building upon the successful business model we launched here in Texas, I am confident that we're going to change the game in Florida. The bottom line is that people are migrating to both states in numbers that we have never seen before, and if there is one thing that everybody hates, it's moving. Arranging It All helps to make the taxing process of relocating a positive experience. You can't put a price on that, just ask our customers.”
