Founded over 50 years ago in 1964 by brothers Robert and John Freund, Comfort-Air Engineering & Primo Plumbing has a rich history perfecting the craft of servicing customers in the San Antonio area.

Comfort-Air Engineering began right across the street from the San Antonio International Airport and soon after in 2007 they acquired Primo Plumbing.

As a result of this acquisition and growth, Comfort-Air Engineering & Primo Plumbing now offers a range of services both residential and commercial, including cooling, heating, plumbing, back-up generators and construction. Construction-wise, the company works on projects in major cities including Austin, Corpus Christi, and Dallas.

Now, Comfort-Air Engineering & Primo Plumbing is expanding its service area to reach farther north to residential customers along the I-35 corridor. The company began offering services in mid-October and held a red ribbon grand opening in San Marcos with the chamber on Oct. 20.

“In San Antonio, we provide commercial, residential and construction, cooling, heating, plumbing and backup generators,” Director of Marketing Lina Rugova said. “At this time, in San Marcos, we're only offering residential plumbing, cooling, and heating services like annual maintenance, repairs, and backflow testing.”

The expansion comes as a plumber from the company is relocating to Hutto. Rather than losing an incredible and talented team member, Comfort-Air Engineering is taking the opportunity to grow into a new area and hire locally.

“We plan to start growing up north and hire local people from the area as well,” Rugova said. “This way our technicians don’t have to travel too far out of their home area, and it makes it easier for everyone.”

The available services in San Marcos will be residential plumbing and HVAC. These services include: HVAC maintenance, repair, and replacement as well as plumbing services like drain cleaning, water heaters, leak detection, backflow testing, and backup generators.

For customers who are new to Comfort-Air Engineering & Primo Plumbing, Rugova said now is a good time to focus on winterization and yearly fall to winter transition annual maintenance plans.

“Especially for those who are starting to turn on their heaters and realize they aren’t working, we can do a tune-up,” she said.

Rugova also highlighted the importance of education in preserving the life of customers’ systems—simple maintenance can be key for longevity.

The company’s website boasts over 50 years of 5-star reviews and perks like upfront pricing, free estimates and energy savings.

Patrick Freund, one of the principal generation leaders on the executive team, said he is excited to continue the company’s legacy to serve a new customer base. In addition to the I-35 corridor expansion in San Marcos, the company’s headquarters at 11403 Jones Maltsberger Road, San Antonio, will also see further expansion in 2023.

“With everything we’re doing, we’re running out of space,” Rugova said. “Because of all the growth we’ve had in recent years, we are building a much bigger facility to house the service side of the company so the construction side can take over the current building.”

As construction on the new building gets underway, the company is looking toward more future expansion and plans to hire more local staff and welcome future growth. Eventually the company hopes to expand to Castroville and continue moving toward I-35 and SH 130 in 2024.
