Family owned Hollywood Crawford Door Co. reflects on 75 years of business

One of the last things people tend to think about when it comes to their homes are the garage doors. This, according to Randy Oliver, is a common mistake most homeowners tend to make. As one of the owners of San Antonio-based Hollywood Crawford Door Co., named after two different garage door companies from the 1940s, Oliver knows a thing or two about what makes garage doors such an important part of the house.

“The garage door may be 30% of what you see from the street. How that garage door looks makes a big impact on the curb appeal of that home,” Oliver said. “A lot of builders and a lot of homeowners have figured out, ‘Hey, if I change the garage door, I can really change the appearance of my home and it raises the value of the home.’”

In its 75 years of service, the business has been heavily decorated with awards, ranging from a family-owned business award from the San Antonio Business Journal to being a super service award winner with Angie’s List for the past 15 years.

Not only has the company been recognized by industry big names, but it also has a strong rapport with the local community, including over 1,600 Google reviews with an overall 5 star rating. Being able to offer services that are not only reliable and well done, but also affordable, is something that is important to the company.

“Obviously being in business for 75 years we've done something right. We've always prided ourselves in our customer service. We do what we say we're gonna do, we're priced reasonable and we don't price gouge people,” Oliver said.

What also sets Hollywood Crawford Door Co. apart from businesses is the family aspect. Oliver currently works at the business alongside his father-in-law, Doyle Benton, his wife, Becky, their two sons, Chris and Jonathan, his sister-in-law, Teri Benton, his nephew, Derek Benton, and his nieces, Emily and Sara Benton. Oliver originally started working at the business in 1981 after being hired by his father-in-law, Doyle. Despite having such a strong family presence, the company also employs over 50 other employees.

Some of the services that the business offers include installing custom garage doors, installing new garage doors in houses that are under construction, free in-home estimates and repairs to garage doors. Some of the customizations that are available include contemporary all glass garage doors, wrought iron accents, custom wood garage doors, and decorative hardware also known as garage door jewelry. Customers can also consult with Hollywood Crawford Door Co. on what they specifically want for their garage door.

“We probably install about 60% of the garage doors and openers in new home construction in the San Antonio area for both large national home builders and custom home builders,” Oliver said.

While plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the business are still in the works, the company plans on continuing to provide excellent customer service to residents in the San Antonio area.

“[The garage door] is finally becoming something that people recognize as valuable,” Oliver said. “It is the largest and heaviest moving object in your home. It deserves some special attention.”

Those interested in Hollywood Crawford Door Co.’s services can visit their website to schedule an appointment at www.hollywoodcrawford.com, as well as visit their showroom with over 40 beautiful, full sized garage doors at 11234 Gordon Road, San Antonio, near the airport.
