From serving as homebase for America’s Team to the upcoming PGA Frisco development, the city of Frisco is a mecca for sports lovers.

Frisco, which is a less than 4.5-hour road trip for visitors from the Austin and Houston regions, boasts a variety of sports and entertainment options for everyone from the novice fan to the loudest tailgaters and biggest sports enthusiasts.

Take advantage of the sports-lovers’ paradise located just 25 minutes north of Dallas by using this bucket list while planning your next trip to Frisco:

Walk in the footsteps of the Dallas Cowboys. Don your best blue and white gear and choose from one of three guided tours at The Star that take visitors behind the scenes of what it’s like to train and practice as a Dallas Cowboy.

The 91-acre campus in the heart of Frisco serves as the headquarters and practice facility for the team, along with Ford Center that features a 12,000-seat indoor stadium and all of the practice fields. Plus, the Tostitos Championship Plaza features a 50-yard replica turf field, perfect for a selfie or picture with the whole family.

• Hit the links for the day (or weekend). Frisco has a plethora of golf courses, from resort-style country clubs to several public courses awaiting visitors. The Professional Golfers’ Association of America just moved its headquarters to Frisco, which is part of a 600-acre upcoming campus that will feature two championship golf courses and a 500-room Omni PGA Frisco Resort.

By spring 2023, two 18-hole championship golf courses known as Fields Ranch-Fields Ranch East will also be open. Designed by Gil Hanse and Beau Welling, the former will feature a two-acre putting course and entertainment area along with a par-3 10-hole short course called The Swing.

Across town, guests of The Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa have the opportunity to book a tee time at the Fazio Course, a championship 18-hole course designed by Tom Fazio.

Plus, the city boasts three public golf courses, including Frisco Lakes Golf Club, Plantation Golf Club and The Trails of Frisco Golf Club.

• Watch FC Dallas compete and learn all about the game of soccer. Frisco is home to FC Dallas, the American professional soccer team, with regular games at Toyota Stadium from February through October. For the more adventurous fans, join the Dallas Beer Guardians, a local soccer supporter’s group, to tailgate before the game in the Red Lot. And in the southwest parking lot, the group El Matador tailgates, marching from the parking lot to the stadium with flags, drums and songs.

Plus, soccer newbies and lifelong fans alike can also make a stop at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the city, which was founded by Texas soccer legend Lamar Hunt and features memorabilia, history and state-of-the-art interactive experiences.

• Catch a baseball game from the lazy river. Temperatures in Texas in the summer (or even early fall) are no joke. To stay cool, take in a Frisco RoughRiders game from the 68,000-gallon lazy river, which is the largest water feature at a professional sports venue. Visitors can purchase tickets to the Class AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers starting at $11 to watch the game from the lazy river.

• Celebrate with a round of drinks after the big game. Whether it’s soccer, baseball or football, raise a glass and toast to the winning team at The Star District, which features more than a dozen restaurants or bars. Grab a mambo taxi from Mi Cocina, a craft beer at City Works, or sake from Sushi Marquee. Plus, several new upcoming nightlife options in the district include Tricky Fish, Snowbird Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen and Sidecar Social.

• Rent out the TopGolf Swing Suite. Located at The Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa, rent out the on-site suite featuring a massive screen and virtual golf games, along with simulated baseball and hockey. Plus, enjoy food and drink options from Beans & Barrel.

• Go shopping and get dressed up for the game. Whether it’s a pair of new cowboy boots from Lucchese’s storefront in The Star, a new top or hoodie for the game from the Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop, or reimagined Dallas Cowboys clothing from Flea Style, take a day to get game-ready by shopping around Frisco.

The city’s Stonebriar Centre also features more than 180 local and national retailers, and the Rail District on Main Street is home to a variety of local boutiques and stores, all perfect for finding the best outfit for tailgating or watching the game.

• Book the perfect hotel for your stay. Catch some z’s and relax for a long weekend at one of the many hotels and resorts located throughout Frisco. From the budget friendly to the luxurious, there are options for everyone.
