While some local businesses have sold to private equity firms, Rescue Air Heating and Cooling remains a family business founded by two experienced HVAC professionals: Michael Hirsh and Josh Campbell.

"They run those businesses very differently. Customers are just a number and it is all about money and profits. You lose the home feel of when you call your local air and heating guy," Campbell said.

Campbell said the difference between their work and private equity-owned companies is the quality of work Rescue Air Heating and Cooling provides. Rescue Air Heating and Cooling services Addison, Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Plano, Richardson and University Park.

"They will advertise those cheap specials and we are the guys that fix those," Campbell said. "We do really high-quality work which is how it should be but it has gotten so commercialized now."

Rescue Air Heating and Cooling has now added plumbing to its services offered with the recent merger of Texas Green Plumbing to the company.

"We just bought a plumbing company which is cool because you don't really see heating and air companies buying plumbing companies. It is very unusual, but I am building something like this on my own and I am keeping it how I should be," Campbell said. "I am a generational owner. My granddad didn't start this company, I did, but I think about the core values and the sense of community."

Keeping up with new innovations and technology in the air, heating and cooling business is a priority for Rescue Air Heating and Cooling.

"I grew up doing this stuff. Every screw, nut and bolt has to be done correctly and I am on it. There are new innovations constantly coming out and new products and with that comes new training,” Campbell said. Most of these other companies don't want anything to do with that because that would cost money to train their people. Many of the products we use cost more money but then they are more complicated to put in."

In an effort to share new innovations with his customers, Rescue Air Heating and Cooling sends out a newsletter filled with tips written by Campbell. Campbell said his motto when it comes to sales is never to send anything to a customer that he would not want to receive and that he tries to constantly add value to others’ lives.

"I believe that when it comes to sales, it is a transfer of your beliefs to someone else's. Someone that does business with you because they know you, trust you and like you," Campbell said. "I think that it is important to add value to people. If I send an email to someone, it will always include helpful information such as how to maintain your air system or drain your own water heater yourself. I won't try to sell anything. My goal when it comes to the newsletter is that you get to the end of it and you think, 'Man I am glad that they sent that.'"

Giving back to the local community is something significant for Campbell as well. He donates to charity organizations, including Ronald Mcdonald House, Folds of Honor and more.

"I am a big supporter of the Scottish Rite Hospital that does pediatric orthopedic surgery and I think that their mission is amazing. They take little kids that have defects in their bones and make them right. They do it for free," Campbell said.

Rescue Air Heating and Cooling also helped out the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company offers an air cleaner that removes COVID-19 from the air, and during the pandemic, they donated and installed the equipment in a local doctor's office that was treating COVID patients.

"It sterilizes the air and makes the environment better for them. It was a donation for them because these people are out here helping keep us healthy," Campbell said.
