1. Accessible pedestrian signal at West Gate and Western Trails boulevards
The city of Austin recently completed a project to install an accessible pedestrian signal at the intersection of West Gate and Western Trails boulevards. The signal entails a push-button device that uses an audible tone to tell pedestrians when to “Walk” and “Don’t walk.”

2. The city of Austin Transportation Department, in coordination with the city of Sunset Valley Public Works Department, is finalizing the design on a project to improve safety and mobility on the portion of Jones Road between Manchaca and Pillow roads. Measures to reduce traffic speeds, improve crosswalks, create a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists, schedule regular maintenance, and add bicycle lanes between Manchaca and West Gate Boulevard are among the improvements.

3. As part of the ATD’s Signals Program, an engineering consultant recently completed a draft study that recommends a traffic signal be installed at the intersection of West Gate Boulevard and Davis Lane. A construction contract is expected to go before City Council for approval this fall. If approved, the signal should be complete by April 2018
