On Monday night the Austin ISD board of trustees voted unanimously on consent to approve the appointment of principals at Clayton and Galindo elementary schools. Formerly the school's interim principal, Amy Gonzales was appointed as principal of Clayton Elementary School, 7525 La Crosse Ave., Austin. According to AISD, Gonzales previously served as the school's assistant principal and has taught English as a second language in kindergarten, first and fourth grades at Menchaca Elementary School. Natascha Barreto-Romero was appointed as principal of Galindo Elementary School, 3800 S. Second St., Austin. According to AISD, she most recently served as assistant principal and reading specialist at Blazier Elementary School. Additionally, Barreto-Romero taught pre-K and kindergarten at Walnut Creek Elementary.

The principals will assume their new roles immediately.
