Sunset Valley City Council approved two proclamations Tuesday to recognize centenarian residents who will celebrate their 100th birthdays in May, Betty Grubbs and Milton Behrens. This year, the city will recognize Grubbs’ birthday, May 15, as Betty Grubbs day, while May 10 was designated Milton O. Behrens Day. Grubbs was one of the founding members of the Village of Sunset Valley in 1954, and Behrens built a house on Brodie Lane in 1953, according to the city proclamations. “One thing about living in a community this small is that, of course residents know everybody regardless of what age they are or how long they lived here, what street they live on,” Mayor Rose Cardona said at the council meeting. “As an elected official I’ve gotten the benefit of also seeing how much staff and police officers care about our elderly residents, which is such a wonderful reason to live in Sunset Valley.” Other highlights from a short meeting Tuesday included the following:
