State Rep. Eddie Rodriguez, D-Austin, announced in a news release Feb. 27 that he is considering a run for the Senate District 14 seat and has launched an exploratory committee.
State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, announced his resignation from the District 14 seat Feb. 18 and will leave office April 30 for a position at the University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs.
"Kirk Watson has for years been an incredible advocate and force for Central Texas in the State Senate and the race to succeed him will be pivotal for our future," Rodriguez said in the release. "As I determine how best to serve our communities across our region and state, I am honored that my colleagues and community leaders are offering their support and guidance. I look forward to finalizing my decision in the coming days."
According to the release, the committee will be co-chaired by state Rep. Donna Howard, D-Austin; state Rep. Celia Israel, D-Austin; and state Rep. Gina Hinojosa, D-Austin.
