Last day parties at Waterloo Records mark final bow at North Lamar location

A number of sponsors and partners, including White Claw, Gold Rush Vinyl, Tequila 512, Rambler Water and more will be giving out a limited number of samples, vinyls and other products throughout the week-long celebration. Waterloo Records neighbor 24 Diner will be selling beer, hard seltzers and wine during the celebration.

The background

Following about 35 years at the North Lamar location, the Austin record store announced the relocation and ownership change in January.

The move comes a few years after Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group purchased the 1-acre site in 2019, which includes Waterloo Records & Video, Amy’s Ice Cream, 24 Diner and more, as previously reported by Community Impact.

The record store is moving further up the road to its new location, previously Louis Shanks Furniture and later a Whole Foods’ regional office. The new space will offer more space for events, more parking and proximity to nearby music venues, a news release said.

Longtime owner John Kunz is passing the mic to Gold Rush Vinyl CEO and founder Caren Kelleher and Austin entrepreneur Trey Watson, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Waterloo first opened in 1982 off South Lamar, then relocated in 1989 to the North Lamar store.
