South Loop 4 construction in Buda expected to wrap up this summer

Construction on South Loop 4/FM 967 in Buda continues and is anticipated to wrap up this summer.

The $8.5 million project to reconstruct and widen FM 967 initially began late last summer. The project aims to improve drainage, and add continuous 5-foot shoulders and center turn lanes at various locations throughout the corridor. A signal will also be added at RM 967 and Robert S. Light Boulevard, according to Antonio Luján, a Texas Department of Transportation public information officer.

The roadwork begins at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks—near South Main Street in Buda—and ends at the southbound I-35 frontage road. A 24-hour one-way traffic control will be in place within the project limits until the project is complete, Luján said.

The road construction is being funded through a partnership between TxDOT, Hays County and the city of Buda. TxDOT is contributing 50% of the project costs while Buda and Hays County split the remaining cost equally, Luján said.
