In efforts to maintain airports afloat in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic that has caused a nationwide economic crisis, $10 billion was allocated to airports around the country as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, and the San Marcos Municipal Airport will be among the many airports to receive some of that federal aid.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett announced April 14 that the San Marcos Municipal Airport will receive $157,000 through the Federal Aviation Administration as part of the $2 trillion relief package passed in March.
“These funds will provide needed financial support to maintain reliable, safe operation at the airport to serve the aviation industry, support airport personnel and supplement our economy,” San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson said in a press release.
Previously, the city of San Marcos announced it will be receiving nearly $7 million in disaster-relief funds from the CARES Act.
