Road projects across Central Texas have seen major movement in the development process this month.
From over $12.4 million in federal grant support on two San Marcos projects to construction progress on two roads included in the 2022 Kyle Road Bond, check out four transportation updates.
Upcoming projects
Project: The project will widen parts of the road, add curbs and gutters, add lighting and add sidewalks to both sides of the road, including one shared-use path, between Old Stagecoach Road and Veterans Drive. It will also add a new single-lane roundabout.
Update: A Notice to Proceed was issued for the project June 22, allowing the construction phase to begin.
Cape Street Shared Use Path
Project: The city will construct a 10-foot shared-use path along both sides of Cape Street from Luciano Flores Street to just past the San Marcos River, connecting to existing trail infrastructure behind the Redpoint Apartments.
Update: The project was awarded $820,934 in federal CAMPO funding to be put toward the approximately $1.03 million design phase.
Old Ranch Road 12 improvements
Project: City crews will widen the roadway to create a continuous center turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks from Craddock Avenue to West Holland Street. The project will include drainage improvements and utility relocations.
Update: The project was awarded $11.8 million in federal CAMPO funding to support the $14.7 million construction phase.
Ongoing projects
Windy Hill Road improvements
Project: The project expands the roadway to four lanes, improves intersections, extends a low-water crossing culvert and adds modern drainage facilities.
Update: Construction on the project began in April. Crews have completed street grading, widening and asphalt operations, striping, signage installation and stormwater pollution prevention installation.
