With all precincts in Hays, Caldwell and Travis counties reporting in the May 2 uniform election, unofficial results show Alex Zavala and Katy Armstrong have secured seats on the Hays CISD board of trustees.
In the race for the at-large position, Zavala secured 706, or 54.48% of ballots, against opponent Ashlee Thurston, who had 590, or 45.52% ballots cast in their favor.
Armstrong secured 189, or 63.64% of votes in the race for the Single-Member District 2 seat, with candidate Jose Luis Perez securing the remaining 36.36% ballots, according to a report from HCISD.
Also of note
Incumbent Raul Vela Jr. ran unopposed for the Single-Member District 1 seat. He was first elected to the board in 2020 and will retain his seat for another three-year term.

All results are unofficial until canvassed on May 11.

Unofficial results show that Katy Armstrong has 64.11% of votes and Jose Luis Perez has 35.89% of votes in the Hays CISD trustee, Single-Member District 2 race. Additionally, they show that Alex Zavala has 54.47% of votes and Ashlee Thurston has 45.53% of votes in the HCISD trustee, at-large race.
All Hays and Travis County precincts are reporting. Caldwell County voting results are not available at this time.

What you need to know
Two seats are up for election on the HCISD board of trustees. Katy Armstrong and Jose Luis Perez are seeking votes in the HCISD trustee, Single-Member District 2 election. The current District 2 trustee, Johnny Flores, is not running for reelection. According to unofficial early results, Armstrong is in the lead with 64.11% of votes, or 184 votes, followed by Perez with 35.89%, or 103 votes.
Ashlee Thurston and Alex Zavala are seeking votes in the HCISD trustee, at-large election. The current trustee at large, Vanessa Petrea, is not running for reelection. Unofficial early voting results show Zavala narrowly in the lead with 54.40% of votes, or 698 votes, followed by Thurston with 45.60%, or 585 votes.
What’s next?
Polls closed at 7 p.m.; voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
