Transportation Updates




1. Sessom Drive improvements


The $2.5 million project includes reconstruction of the intersection of State Street and Sessom Drive, stabilization of erosive conditions in Sessom Creek and addition of sidewalks from Aquarena Springs Drive to North LBJ Drive. In late June construction crews were constructing sidewalks and bicycle improvements. The contractor is aiming to complete the reconstruction of the State Street intersection by mid-August. Motorists should anticipate various lane closures throughout the project area during construction.

2. Goforth Road/dam improvements


The Plum Creek Conservation District is constructing a labyrinth weir on Goforth Road to improve conveyance of storm water during heavy rain events east of Kyle. The project has forced the closure of a portion of Goforth Road east of Kyle. In late June construction crews were in the process of pouring concrete walls that will constitute the outside of the weir.

3. FM 150 widening


Planned work to widen FM 150 from Lox to SH 21 has been completed. In late June the project contractor was pouring the final overlay and cleaning the project area.

4. SH 45 SW construction


In late June, construction crews were performing excavation, embankment and drainage work on the new highway, which is intended to improve mobility between Austin and Hays County. Utility relocation near FM 1626 is ongoing. Crews completed work on the northbound Danz Creek bridge, and construction on widening the southbound side of the bridge began in June. Upon completion, SH 45 SW will connect FM 1626 in Hays County with MoPac in Travis County. Hays County contributed $5 million to the $100 million project. When completed, the road will feature two lanes in each direction.

5. Elder Hill Road resurfacing and reconstruction


Hays County began a resurfacing and reconstruction project on Elder Hill Road in Driftwood on July 10. The project will force the closure of some lanes from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays throughout the duration of construction.
