Make sure you’re registered and ready for Election Day.

How to register to vote

To be eligible to vote in Texas, you must:

  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be a resident of the county where you submit the application.
  • Be 18 years old on Election Day.
  • Not be a convicted felon — you may be eligible once you’ve completed your sentence, probation, and parole.
  • Not have been declared by a court to be totally mentally incapacitated, or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

What to take with you to the polls

Bring one of these accepted forms of photo ID:

  • Texas driver’s license
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate
  • Texas personal identification card
  • Texas handgun license issued by DPS
  • U.S. military ID card with your photo
  • U.S. citizenship certificate with your photo
  • U.S. passport (book or card)
