Major closures set for Loop 1604 on April 12-14

Two portions of Loop 1604 in North San Antonio will see closures April 12-15 due to the ongoing freeway expansion and improvement project.

Current situation

Texas Department of Transportation representatives urged motorists to beware the following scheduled closures between 9 p.m. April 12 and and 5 a.m. April 15, weather permitting:

• Loop 1604 eastbound and westbound main lanes through the I-10 interchange
• Loop 1604 eastbound and westbound frontage roads through the I-10 interchange
• I-10 eastbound and westbound main lanes through the Loop 1604 interchange
• Loop 1604 westbound main lanes from Blanco Road to Bitters Road

A closer look

TxDOT representatives said the I-10/Loop 1604 interchange closure will allow work crews to install steel beams, while the closure of westbound main lanes between Blanco and Bitters roads will permit the contractor to complete paving operations there.

TxDOT representatives said additional major closures are scheduled for the remaining weekends in April at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange to let workers install 20 steel beams for construction of the flyover ramps, which will be part of a new direct interchange.
