Water and sewer main replacements, along with street rehabilitation, is ongoing in the Buffalo Valley South neighborhood of Schertz.

The big picture

The Buffalo Valley South Resurfacing, Rehabilitation and Utility Replacement project in the neighborhood costs an estimated $5.3 million, according to agenda documents authorizing the contract for work with E-Z Bel Construction. Funding is split between $4 million from the American Rescue Plan and $1.3 million from Schertz SPAM funding.

Selected streets for the project, those being Mill, 1st, 2nd, Bowman, Lee, Church, Zuehl and Wuest, were chosen from Pavement Condition Index scores that assess local pavement for needed repairs.

What's new

A new water main on Zuehl Road and a new sewer main on the west end of Church Street are nearly complete, according to agenda documents. One segment of the new sewer main passed a pressure test. However, a new manhole at the end of Church Street was delayed due to finding a gas line in a different location than initially suspected, with city staff and E-Z Bel Construction coordinating with CenterPoint Energy to resolve the issue, according to agenda documents. As of June 16, a road closure was in place on Mill Street for the construction.

Next steps

The project is slated to be completed in winter 2026, agenda documents state.
