What residents should know
On Jan. 23, City Council held a special meeting and workshop to discuss the Tolle Road project.
The meeting included a presentation from Travis Michael, a senior associate with Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam Inc., outlining the options for the project. Two options were outlined in the presentation with the first being a full depth reconstruction of the road, which would give the road an estimated 20 years of pavement service life at a cost of around $7.7 million.
While this option reconstructs the road and addresses drainage issues, it includes 16 right-of-way acquisitions along the roadway. The reconstruction option would also take an estimated 31-33 months to complete from final design to construction, Michael said during the presentation.
The other option presented was a mill and overlay for the road, which would focus on improvements to the surface of the road but not drainage improvements like a full reconstruction would provide. This project would give the road an estimated five years of pavement service life, costing around $3.4 million, and would take an estimated 10-12 months to complete from final design to construction, according to the presentation.
Ultimately, City Council made the decision to table the discussion until the meeting on Feb. 13 where the options will be revisited.
Also on the agenda
Prior to the discussion of the design for the road project, council is scheduled to enter an executive session with one of the topics listed as “Road conditions on Tolle Road,” according to the agenda.
Another item on the agenda is an ordinance setting a temporary speed limit of 25 miles per hour, requiring installation of signs to make the public aware of rough road conditions and providing a penalty that includes a fine of no less than $1 and no more than $200.
