Mill and overlay work that was to begin this week on Elbel Road has been delayed due to issues at the asphalt batch plant until after the new year begins, according to Schertz Communication Manager Devan Christensen.

The work is now tentatively slated to begin the week of Jan. 3. However, on Dec. 22, the traffic control on the road was set to change, she said. Two-way traffic with one lane in each direction will be placed in the center two lanes, and lanes closest to the curbs will be closed.

According to Christensen, access to the U.S. Post Office and the Schertz Tax Assessor’s Office will be maintained.

“This setup will remain in place through the holidays until the contractor can do the paving estimated to start the week of Jan. 3,” Christensen said in an email. “We will issue a new notice before the paving work begins.”
