University Health President and CEO George B. Hernández Jr. said the area is exploding in growth, and the clinic is meant to be part of a larger network of clinics and support the new hospital that is planned for nearby Selma.

“If you’re going to build a hospital, you have to have clinics in the area,” Hernandez said. “This can’t be the only clinic. You have to have more because people need all levels of care to keep people healthy and [for] prevention.”

Hernandez said a clinic is typically where people go to get treatment for a variety of ailments from a bad headache to the flu.

“We want to provide the whole continuum of care in this area,” he said.

Converse Mayor Al Suarez offered opening remarks. Residents were able to tour the new clinic and talk with doctors on-site.
