Registration for the Schertz EMT Training Academy opened March 8. This academy will be held in May and offers initial prehospital emergency medical training.

The academy is 16 weeks long, consisting of 176 hours of classroom lectures and skill training. An internship including 40 hours of practical experience, and 24 hours of clinical experience are also included.

Course completion qualifies graduates to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification examination.

Requirements for the academy include being 18 years old by graduation, having a high school diploma or GED, having a valid driver’s license, and having current immunization requirements.

Applications are available online, and a deposit of $550 is due with the application. An additional $550 will be due by the first night of class.
