Council member Phil Vaughan was the single dissenting vote.
What happened
The UCEDC position for the unexpired 2024-2026 term had been vacant due to the passing of Richard Neville, according to agenda documents.
Dunlop applied to fill the vacancy along with Kenneth Mitts, Roslyn McCumber, Fran Daniels and John Williams. Dunlop is a retired 26-year resident of Universal City and this will be his first official position with the city, according to agenda documents.
Dunlop’s application to fill the vacancy said that he would like a focus on light manufacturing and logistics to drive job creation and tax revenue.
“Economic development is the only real lever we have to improve the prosperity of the city. Creating new opportunities for entertainment, dining and retail also help raise the livability of the city. Larger retail, manufacturing, logistics and similar organizations can be a great job [creator] and tax engine,” Dunlop said.
What they're saying
Vaughan was the only member of council to speak on the nomination, saying he would have preferred another candidate.
