Early voters in Guadalupe County will be able to cast ballots at the Schertz Annex building, located at 1101 Elbel Road, for the upcoming May election.

Current situation

The Schertz Annex building—which is expected to be ready for occupancy May 27—has been under renovation since spring 2024 and will be available for early voting while construction continues on the south end of the building, according to a Guadalupe County press release.

The $4.14 million project will increase the building capacity to 190 people. The project also includes compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and will provide ease of access to building departments, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Departments to be housed at the facility include Precinct 3’s commissioner, constable and Justice of the Peace. The building will also hold the Elections Office, District Clerk’s Office and County Clerk’s Office, according to the press release.

Quote of note

Precinct 3 Commissioner Michael Carpenter said the county remains committed to making this "highly utilized" voting location accessible during the completion of the refitting of the building interior

“The completion of the project will reflect a significant improvement in utilization of available space and functional modernization of the facility," Carpenter said in the news release.
