After five days of early voting for the Schertz City Council, Place 4 runoff election, 444 ballots have been cast, according to reports from Guadalupe County.

Benjamin Guerrero and Tim Dusek are running to fill the council seat left vacant when Tiffany Gibson resigned in September.

After a special election Dec. 14, Guerrero and Dusek received the most votes, but neither candidate received more than 50% of total votes, requiring the city to call a special election.

Early voting for the election began Jan. 2, and the last days to cast an early ballot area Jan. 13-14.


According to the 2023 American Community Survey 5-year estimates conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Schertz has a voting age population of around 31,500. Using these numbers, around 1.41% of the Schertz voting age population has cast a ballot in the special election.

The largest turnout during early voting was Jan. 3, where 106 ballots were cast.

What’s next?

The election will be held Jan. 18 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and ballots will be counted following the closing of polls.


The top vote-getter will be sworn into Schertz City Council after ballots have been canvassed. The new council member will serve the unfinished term, set to expire in November 2026.
