The bureau released new five-year data for 2023 on Dec. 12 as part of its American Community Survey, or ACS. The data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the bureau website.

Between the 2018 and 2023 surveys, the city of Universal City saw a decrease in total population while the cities of Live Oak, Selma and Garden Ridge each had an increase.
In 2018, Universal City had a projected population of around 20,265, which decreased to 19,853 in the 2023 report, resulting in a decline of 2.03%.
Live Oak went from 15,595 residents in 2018 to 15,875 residents in 2023, resulting in a 1.8% increase.
Selma saw the largest population increase, moving from 9,895 to 11,302, representing a change of 14.22%.
The population in Garden Ridge increased by 9.16%, moving from 3,887 residents in 2018 to 4,243 residents in 2023.
Breaking it down
While Universal City saw an overall decrease in the total number of residents, the number of residents aged 20-39 increased by around 13.35%, increasing from 5,230 in 2018 to 5,876 in 2023.
The city of Live Oak had decreases in ages 0-19 and 60-79, while the largest increase in population was with ages 80+, which increased from 369 to 554, reflecting a 50.14% increase.
In Selma, all age groups had an increase in population, with ages 60-79 showing the largest increase from 827 to 1268, a 53.33% increase.
Garden Ridge also had an increase in all age groups, increasing the most in ages 80+, going from 57 to 173, an increase of 203.51%.
