The canvassing of the Dec. 14 election results for the city of Schertz have been postponed, due to the city not receiving the full voting totals from the election.

The gist

During the Dec. 17 City Council meeting, three agenda items related to the canvassing of the votes and the calling of a runoff election were scheduled.

Mayor Ralph Gutierrez said the final voting totals from the election have not been provided to the city, due to mail in ballots that have not been returned.

“Guadalupe County had over 500 mail ballots, and not all of them have been returned,” he said. “Appropriate time must be provided to allow them to return.”

What’s next?

The items were postponed one week, now scheduled for a Dec. 26 special City Council meeting beginning at 4 p.m.

During the meeting, the votes from Dec. 14 will be canvassed, and a special election will be called should the totals not increase any candidate to above 50% of total votes.

As of the unofficial totals released by Guadalupe County on Dec. 14, the top two vote-getters in the Schertz election were Tim Dusek with 29.10% of votes and Benjamin Guerrero with 22.34% of votes.
