Cibolo City Council has begun discussion on the rewriting of the Unified Development Code.

The overview

This document is a consolidation of development regulations, including topics like zoning, parking restrictions, overlay districts and other city guidelines, Economic Development Director Kelsee Jordan Lee said.

On Sept. 10, Lee explained that the rewrite would help modernize the UDC, making it more reflective of the city.

Over the last 10 years, the UDC has been updated to incorporate new policies, which has led to the document being disjointed.

“We have sections that are in conflict with one another,” Lee said. “We have areas that are just a little to vague, and so that is a portion of why we are looking to do this rewrite.”

Why it matters

Once completed, the document will be referenced by city staff and officials when considering development and regulations within Cibolo.

During the consolidation process, public input opportunities may be available for residents.

Lee said the rewrite will be funded through $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act Funds, which cities received as supplemental funding as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The request for proposals for the rewrite is expected to be sent out in September, and the goal is to have the bid awarded by the end of the year.
