What you need to know
City Council on Aug. 7 supported a proposed tax rate of $0.255156 per $100 valuation. This proposed rate is a decrease to the FY 2023-24 rate of $0.257734 per $100 valuation.
While approval would decrease the property tax rate, homeowners may still see increases to property tax bills based on home appraisal values.
According to data from the San Antonio Board of Realtors, median home sales prices for the 78266 ZIP code in June were $443,450.
A homeowner with a home valued at $443,450 would pay an estimated $1,131.49 in annual taxes to the city, should the proposed rate be approved.
Information on appraisals can be found through the Comal Appraisal District.
Moving forward
With approval of the proposed tax rate, City Council will hold a public hearing and final vote on the new rate.
These meetings are tentatively scheduled for the regular City Council meeting on Sept. 4. City Council agendas and meeting information can be found here.
