Selma City Council on April 11 approved the awarding of a construction contract to Harper Brothers Construction for right-of-way improvements to portions of Retama Parkway and Alton Boulevard.

The details

The awarded contract amount was around $5.31 million and not to exceed a little over $5.57 million. The project is funded through a portion of city sales tax.

City Administrator Johnny Casias said in anticipation of University Health breaking ground on a new hospital, and Judson ISD constructing a new elementary school, City Council budgeted the road project for construction in fiscal year 2023-24.

Greyson Cox with KSA Engineers said if the contractor is able to do both projects at the same time without delay, then they may be able to do that. Otherwise, the roads will be under construction at different times.

The project is expected to begin in mid-May. Retama Parkway will take an estimated six months for construction to complete, and Alton Boulevard will take an estimated three months to complete, Cox said.
