Cibolo city staff have developed a webpage to inform residents of a planned bond election in November. The proposed bond will have two projects, with one being a new animal services facility and the other being a public safety facility.

The details

During the Jan. 23 City Council meeting, council gave direction to city staff to launch a website with information about the proposed bond projects.

In March 2023, council awarded a consultant contract to Quorum Architects, LLC, for the design work on a future animal services facility.

According to the bond webpage, the animal services facility was opened in 2009 and has limited space for animals. In 2023, the facility received 545 intakes.

Under the bond, a new facility would be constructed to include larger spaces for animals and staff. The proposed design of the new facility and additional information regarding the project can be found on the city website.

What else?

Alongside a bond item for an animal services facility, city staff plans for a November ballot item for the construction of a public safety facility.

The public safety facility would allow the police department, fire department and other public safety personnel to have a facility where additional training and safety preparation could be held. With the new facility, the response times of the police and fire departments would be reduced for the southern portion of the city.

What residents should know

Should both projects pass in the bond, the expectation is that residents would see a property tax increase not to exceed $0.05 per $100 valuation.

According to city staff, the website will be updated periodically to include additional information on both projects, dates of public events and other information related to the proposed bond. Visit www.cibolotomorrow.com to learn more.
