One of the last vacant lots on Pat Booker Road in Universal City is set to be filled by an apartment complex.

City Council on Aug. 15 held a discussion and approved ordinances for the project, which would consist of four three-story buildings totaling 192 units. Alongside the apartments, a three-story self-storage facility was proposed.

While the project was approved, some members of City Council had concerns with the plan.

The first concern was regarding the removal of trees. Council Member Steven Buck asked if the applicant would be open to relocating some of the trees.

According to the applicant, they can move smaller trees but cannot guarantee the relocation of trees. However, the applicant was open to planting new trees in the place of those that will need to be removed during the construction of the project.

Another concern for City Council was the three-story storage facility, which Council Member Bear Goolsby said was unappealing for the area.

Council approved the final plans with the stipulation that the exterior design of the storage facility come back to City Council for approval.

Council Member Ashton Bulman voted against the development plan due to the number of apartments City Council has already approved along Pat Booker Road.

“I just think it might be better as a medical center or something that is not apartments,” she said.
