The new center is located at 205 E. Weinert St., Seguin, and will provide services to over 17,000 veterans living in the Guadalupe County area, according to an Aug. 9 news release.
The project
The idea for the center started around 2017; the project design was presented to the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court in 2021; and a contract was awarded to The Koehler Co. in March 2022 for a bid of $4.3 million.
With the new center, Guadalupe County will provide services to all veterans in the area, including those who do not live within the county, according to the release.
Services will assist veterans with accessing Veterans Affairs benefits, providing guidance and referrals for employment, education, health care and other services that veterans and families of veterans may need. The center also has areas for visitors to enjoy outdoor spaces and areas of reflection.
According to the release, the Guadalupe County Veterans Services Office has partnered with five agencies bringing professional services that will help provide information and advice to veterans.
Partnering agencies include:
- Texas Veterans Commission
- Disabled American Veterans
- The Ecumenical Center Mental Health Counseling
- Vet Center
- Bluebonnet Trails
“This facility has been a long-time planning effort that will soon begin to make a big impact on veterans’ lives in Guadalupe and surrounding counties,” Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher said in the release. “The additional services and resources will now be offered locally to help guide and enhance lives while offering space for healing and advancement for all veterans and their families.”
