Schertz Police Department said Jan. 5 it is accepting applications for the annual Citizens Police Academy.
The 10-week course, which begins March 2, is available to local residents and businesses interested in how the police department operates and how they can help to improve public safety in their neighborhood.
Additionally, the program is designed to increase rapport between residents and police officers, and let officers as instructors lead role-playing scenarios.
Residents interested in attending the Citizens Police Academy must be at least 18 years old, complete the application process and undergo a background check, according to the SPD.
Classes are free of charge, and will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursdays. Class size is limited to 15 students.
