Schertz City Council on March 1 approved the first reading of an adjustment of $570,000 to the fiscal year 2021-22 budget.

According Public Works Director Suzanne Williams, this amendment was made to provide funding for the purchase of property off of I-35 North that is owned by the Guadalupe Basin River Authority.

Williams said this property could be used for expansion purposes to accommodate growth needs for other city facilities.

“We intend to use that to accommodate growth in undeveloped areas in North Schertz,” Williams said. “One thought is to use it for the wastewater and water options. We could use it for storage or to expand the lift station, which is needed.”

Funds for this property will be divided between the general fund and the water and wastewater fund.

Mayor Ralph Gutierrez and council members extended their appreciation to the GBRA for the opportunity to obtain the property.

“I’d just like to pass on our appreciation to the Guadalupe Basin River Authority for actually working with us and partnering with us for this purchase,” Gutierrez said.
