On Oct. 1 local police departments and city officials will join the community to celebrate National Night Out.

To prepare for the event, applications are open to neighborhoods or organizations that would like to request city staff and officials to a celebration event.

The overview

During the event, neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades and other community events.

According to the National Night Out website, the event helps promote police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer.

Each year, 349 Texas cities join the effort, including the cities of Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, Live Oak, Universal City and Garden Ridge.

Registration forms have opened for the cities of Schertz, Cibolo, Selma and Garden Ridge.

Neighborhoods can utilize the registration forms to inform the city of a NNO celebration, and request the attendance of city officials and police officers.

Additional information for the event can be found on each city’s website. Registration has not opened for Live Oak and Universal City events as of publication time.
