To celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month, the city of Schertz Parks and Recreation Department will host an event every Thursday night in July beginning July 7.
The first event will be a popsicle party, which is free to attend and begins at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Schertz Dog Park, located at 940 Community Circle, Schertz.
Following events will include Tactical Laser Tag on July 14, Pickleball Party on July 21 and Glow in the Park on July 28.
Each event is held at a different park in Schertz and attendance cost varies. Additional information can be found on the Schertz Parks and Recreation website.
July 9: Discover Clues and Traces
The final Nature Discovery Series event of the summer will focus on animal tracks and traces. The Nature Discovery Series aims to encourage kids to explore, discover and ask questions to help grow their knowledge of nature.
Preregistration is required for the event, and attendees are encouraged to arrive between 9:30-10 a.m. The event runs from 10-noon. Free attendance. Crescent Bend Nature Park, 12780 Schaefer Rd, Schertz.
July 16: Ed-Zoo-Cation in the Park
The city of Schertz is partnering with the San Antonio Zoo Center for Conservation and other groups to bring back the educational nature series Ed-ZOO-Cation in the Park.
The second event will use iNaturalist.org to identify flora, fauna and animals in the park. 10-11:30 a.m. Free. Crescent Bend Nature Park, located at 12780 Schaefer Road, Schertz.
July 16-30: Movies in the Park
Schertz Music and Movies in the Park has three more movies scheduled in July. The series was created by the Schertz Parks and Recreation Department to get the community to go out and enjoy local parks.
The remaining movies include “Luca” on July 16, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” on July 23 and “Inside Out” on July 30. The event begins at 7 p.m., and movies start at dusk.
The event is free to attend, and attendees should bring lawn chairs and snacks. The movies are held at different parks in Schertz with “Luca” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” held at the Pickrell Park Pool, located at 701 Oak St., Schertz. “Inside Out” will be held at Ashley Park, located at 534 Ashley Park, Schertz.
