Three candidates have filed for the Place 4 trustee position at Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, or SCUCISD.

In a nutshell

The election Nov. 4 will have Matthew Short, Al Ramirez and Joel Hicks on the ballot for the Place 4 position. The winning candidate will replace the departing Board President, Edward Finley.

"It has been a rewarding experience being here ... and I look forward to who the voters choose, I think we [have] a really good selection this time around," Finley said at the Aug. 18 board of trustees meeting.

According to their election filings, Short has lived in the district for 2 years and 3 months, Ramirez has lived in the district for 12 years and Hicks has lived in the district for 29 years.


Hicks currently serves on Cibolo City Council. Ramirez ran for the board of trustees in November 2023, earning 2,497 votes or 46.26% to Margaret Carlin’s 2,900 votes, or 53.73%, according to official 2023 election results from Guadalupe and Bexar counties.

What else?

SCUCISD will also have contested races for Place 5 and Place 7 positions on the ballot. The Place 6 trustee election will be unopposed, with Bill Paschal as the lone candidate.

Early voting will begin Oct. 20 and end Oct. 31. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6.
