What’s happening?
As of the Aug. 18 deadline to file for the Nov. 4 election, incumbent Ralph Gutierrez, challenger Robert Marks Jr. and challenger Ralph Rodriguez will be in the race for mayor.
Gutierrez was sworn in as mayor in November 2019, according to the city’s website, and previously served on council from 2016 to 2019. He has been a Schertz resident since 1991.
According to his election filing, Marks Jr. has lived in Schertz for 6 years and 5 months. He last ran for the Place 6 City Council position in November 2024, earning 5,546 votes, or 38.1% to Allison Heyward’s 9,010 votes, or 61.9%.
Rodriguez has lived in Schertz for 17 years and 2 months, according to his filing, and currently serves as fire chief of Bexar County ESD No. 2.
What else?
There will be a mayoral race, an unopposed Place 1 council election and a contested Place 2 council race on the Nov. 4 ballot. Incumbent Mark Davis is the lone Place 1 candidate.
Early voting in Bexar, Guadalupe and Comal counties will be held from Oct. 20 to Oct. 31.
