The city of Selma will hold a special election May 4 for reauthorization to collect a portion of sales and use tax.

What you should know

Since 2004, Selma has collected one-fourth of 1% in sales and use tax that is dedicated to road repairs, according to the city website.

The city of Selma had two City Council seats and the mayor seat up for election in May.

Due to those positions being unopposed, the following officials will retain their seats:
  • Mayor: Tom Daly
  • City Council Place 2: Noah Washington Jr.
  • City Council Place 3: Beck Harris
An order was adopted March 14 for the cancellation of a general election on May 4. Selma residents will only have the special election for the reauthorization of the sales and use tax on the city portion of their ballots.
