Schertz-Cibolo Universal City ISD staff will host a town hall meeting Feb. 4 in conjunction with Raise Your Hand Texas to share information on the current state of education.

What you need to know

In the fiscal year 2024-25 budget, SCUCISD approved a budget with an estimated $11 million shortfall. Across the state, districts have passed shortfall budgets, with an increasing number of districts representatives advocating for additional state funding to support public schools.

The community is invited to learn more about expectations during the 89th legislative session, which began Jan. 14. Sophie Torres, regional advocacy director with Raise Your Hand Texas, will speak on how public schools are funded, according to meeting information.

Superintendent Paige Meloni will share additional information on how the state conversations affect SCUCISD.

Leading up to the meeting, residents can submit questions to district staff. Questions can be submitted here.

The meeting will be held in two sessions, with a teachers and staff meeting from 5-6 p.m., and a parents and community meeting from 6:15-7:15 p.m. The meeting will be held at the William Malish Administrative Center, located at 1060 Elbel Road, Schertz, and will be livestreamed here.
